OSUDER Empowers Teenage Nursing Mothers with Income-Generating Skills and GBV Awareness

In 2022, OSUDER, the Organization for Sustainable Development and Relief, conducted a skills training workshop for teenage nursing mothers among internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Bamenda, Cameroon. Led by Madam Eucheria, a health expert and the Divisional Delegate of Women Empowerment, Ngoketunjia, the workshop focused on rubbing oil production and marketing, providing these vulnerable young women with an opportunity to acquire income-generating skills and enhance their livelihood.

Alongside the skills training, OSUDER also conducted a sensitization session on gender-based violence (GBV), raising awareness about its prevalence, forms, and consequences. The session aimed to empower the teenage nursing mothers to recognize and protect themselves from GBV, promoting their safety and well-being.

The skills training workshop was tailored to the specific needs and circumstances of teenage nursing mothers. Experienced trainers guided the participants through the various stages of rubbing oil production, from extracting and refining ingredients to packaging and labeling. The participants actively engaged in the training, demonstrating their eagerness to learn and acquire a skill that could contribute to their economic independence.

OSUDER’s comprehensive approach to empowering teenage nursing mothers not only provides them with income-generating skills but also addresses critical issues affecting their lives. By raising awareness about GBV and equipping them with the knowledge and skills to protect themselves, OSUDER is helping to break the cycle of vulnerability and empower these young women to build brighter futures.

Through initiatives like this skills training and GBV sensitization workshop, OSUDER is actively contributing to the social empowerment and well-being of teenage nursing mothers among IDPs in Cameroon. By providing them with the tools and support they need to generate income, protect themselves from GBV, and improve their lives, OSUDER is making a positive impact on their communities.
